    I guess I'm in the minority here. I omitted the sugar all together based on other reviews. I don't care for sweet in my chili. I wasn't a fan of the ketchup. It made it taste like a sloppy joe. I first made it following the directions minus the sugar and a little less chili powder and it was meh. The ketchup still made it too sweet and it lacked flavor. I upped the cumin, added beef bouillon and more spices. Still wasn't enough to hide the ketchup taste. I think there is a reason why everyone tweaks this recipe then rates it five stars. I'd start with no sugar or ketchup and go from there, unless a BBQ sauce chili is what you're after. On another note, the spicy v8 wasn't that spicy. I was leary about it, but was pleasantly surprised. Guess I was just hoping for something else. But if you like a sweet/spicy blend this may be for you.

I would never do it without cornbread trust me on this!
